Joe Petrali Automatic Watch, Black Dial With Leather Strap

Joe Petrali automatic watch from Terra Cielo Mare. On March 13th 1937, the Italian-American motorcycle racer “Smokey” Joe Petrali rewrote racing history. On a Harley Davidson Knuckelhead he broke the world speed record for motorcycles and set the new mark to 219.160 km/h (136.183 mph), setting the mark for future generations of record breakers. This phenomenal record and nearly 70 victories in national races gave him a place of honour in the Racing Hall of Fame. The Joe Petrali has a 47mm highly polished 316L stainless steel case, which houses a TCM modified Swiss ETA 2824-2 25 jewel automatic movement. The case has a large engraved crown at 2 o'clock, with the face of the watch rotated so that dial is easily readable whilst riding. The black opaque dial has a tachymetre scale around the perimeter, a minute track inside this, and has hands and numeral coated with Super-LumiNova for great lowlight visibility. The dial has a date window at 3 oclock, and has a cloisonne applied motorcycle at 6 o'clock, a Harley Davidson Knuckelhead, to commemorate the record breaking run. The back of the watch has a copper medallion, which has an image of the motorcycle and Joe Petrali, and details of the record. The Joe Petrali is water resistant to 50 metres, and comes fitted with a black leather strap with orange stitching and polished stainless steel buckle. SOLD
